Beaches

Stunning sapphire water and golden sand stretch for miles, so many magnificent beaches to enjoy. Merimbula Main beach is home to many activities - swim, surf, sailboard or canoe the sparkling waters, learn to surf or just sit back and take in the local birdlife and scenic beauty that makes Merimbula so magical. There are many stunning ocean and lake beaches for all ages to enjoy, no matter where the wind is coming from, you will be able to find a protected beach and our temperate climate makes the beaches a wonderful place to be regardless of the time of year.

Lakes

Walk on the boardwalk around Merimbula Lake and enjoy the wide variety of birdlife and the beautiful scenery. Hire a boat and go fishing or fish off the various favourite spots around the lake. Pambula Lake is also a beautiful spot for boating or fishing or buying those tasty oysters.

Golf

The Pambula Merimbula Golf Club offers the only 27 hole course on the Sapphire Coast. The club will welcome you and the course is excellent with bushland and views to the lake and of course the resident-roos are an added attraction for many visitors. The course at Club Sapphire Tura was designed by Peter Thompson and is a championship course that offers million dollar coastal and ocean views. There are also excellent golf courses close by at Eden, Bega and Tathra.

Bowling

Both Bowling Clubs in the Merimbula area will make visiting bowlers feel very welcome. Excellent catering and entertainment is provided and the clubs are known for their friendliness and informality. Several bowling carnivals are held throughout the year.

Tennis Courts

If you enjoy a game of tennis, there are hard courts and all weather surfaces available and both Merimbula and Pambula courts have night lighting.

Sailboarding

Sailboarding is a popular sport and the Merimbula area is ideal for enthusiasts. Merimbula Lake provides an ideal spot for participants and spectators alike, with the surf beaches ideal for the more adventurous wave jumpers. The annual Mambo Festival in November is very colourful and makes for great photo opportunities as competitors from all over the world show off their skills.

Merimbula Attractions - Dolphin & Whale Watching

The main season for dolphin and whale watching is from late September to November when mothers and calves migrate south to the feeding grounds of the Antarctic. Whale sightings in Merimbula Bay are becoming more frequent each year as mothers and calves rest before continuing their long journeys. The experience of seeing these amazing creatures is something that will stay with you forever. During a cruise you will also see interesting birdlife including the Albatross and sightings of seals, dolphin and the fairy penguins are common. Several cruises are available from Merimbula and Eden.

Fishing

Merimbula is famous for its beautiful and bountiful coastal waterways and beaches where boating and fishing are favourite pastimes of locals and visitors. Whether it is deep sea, rock or beach fishing or simply dangling a line in the lake or off the jetty or prawning when the time is right, you'll enjoy the experience. Charter boat operators in Merimbula offer extensive fishing knowledge and provide reef, deep sea and game fishing trips and boat hire. Ramps and facilities are all close by.

Up Close & Personal To The Animals

Potoroo Palace native animal and education sanctuary is just 9km north of Merimbula on the Princes Highway and is always worth a visit to see some of our lovely locals. Go to Oaklands at Pambula where you can feed the farm animals and enjoy an excellent coffee or browse for antiques. Visit Merimbula Aquarium with its 27 tank aquarium plus a spectacular large ocean tank. The very well presented morning fish feeding sessions are both educational and fun for all ages, the restaurant's coffee and lunches are excellent too and you just may be lucky enough to see a pod of dolphin go past.

National Parks

There are many National Parks to explore during your stay. Whether exploring the more remote beaches at Mimosa or Ben Boyd National Parks or walking between Green Cape and Boyd's Tower on the Light to Light Walk, you will see spectacular coastline and long, deserted beaches. Davidson Whaling Station is on the shores of beautiful Twofold Bay and gives a fascinating insight to the days when whaling took place in the area

Scenic Drives

The Merimbula Area offers many delightful scenic drives along the coast and inland. Visit such places as Bournda Island and Lagoon, Wallagoot Lake, Dr. George and Myrtle Mountains, Bega, Cobargo, Bermagui, Wyndham and Rocky Hall areas, Eden and spectacular Twofold Bay.

Merimbula's family recreation park Magic Mountain offers hours of fun and relaxation for all age groups. Make a trip to the Killer Whale Museum in Eden where you will find a range of maritime relics from the days when the whaling industry flourished in Twofold Bay with a complete skeleton of Tom the killer whale - believed to be one of the 2 killer whale skeletons in the world.
Visit the cheese factory and heritage centre at Bega or one of the museums in the area. The Old School museum in Merimbula is well worth a visit to see the amazing utensils, clothing, photos and other interesting items from much earlier days.
Find the bargain of the year at one of our local markets, galleries or craft villages where you will find pottery, timber, leather and art and craft of all types. Visit one of the wineries in the area and enjoy the tastings on offer, learn to snorkel, scuba dive or surf, hire a bike or kayak or ride a horse.
